چکیده
In the last decade, a few of early attempts to bring CFD-DEM fluidized beds beyond limits small, lab-scale units larger scale systems have become popular. The simulation capabilities Discrete Element Method in multiphase flow and largely benefitted by improvements offered coarse graining approaches. fact, number real particles that can be simulated increases point pilot-scale some industrially relevant approachable. Methodologically, procedures been introduced various groups, resting on different physical backgrounds. present review collects most contributions, critically proposing them within unique, consistent framework for derivations nomenclature. Scaling contact forces, with linear Hertz-based approaches, hydrodynamic cohesive forces is illustrated discussed. orders magnitude computational savings are quantified as function degree. An overview recent applications bubbling, spouted circulating bed reactors presented. Hybrid Two-Fluid DEM Simulation of Gas-Solid Fluidized Beds
Simulations of gas-solid fluidized beds have been performed using a hybrid simulation method, which couples the discrete element method (DEM) for particle dynamics with the averaged two-fluid (TF) continuum equations for the gas phase. The coupling between the two phases is modeled using an interphase momentum transfer term. The results of the hybrid TF-DEM simulations are compared to experimen...
متن کاملCoarse-grain modelling of protein-protein interactions.
Here, we review recent advances towards the modelling of protein-protein interactions (PPI) at the coarse-grained (CG) level, a technique that is now widely used to understand protein affinity, aggregation and self-assembly behaviour. PPI models of soluble proteins and membrane proteins are separately described, but we note the parallel development that is present in both research fields with t...
متن کاملBiomass Gasification in Fluidized Bed Gasifiers Modeling and Simulation
Using woody biomass as a resource for production of biofuel, heat and power through gasification has been studied for years. In order to reduce the cost of operating and to design the full-scale gasification plant developing a general model to be applicable for different ranges of input data with acceptable level of accuracy, is needed. In order to develop such model for the gasifier, as the ma...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Modelling and CFD Simulation of Gas-Solid Bubbling Fluidized Bed
This work presents a computational study of flow behaviour in a bubbling fluidized bed. The model is developed by using the commercial CFD code Fluent 6.3. The model is based on an Eulerian description of the gas and the particle phase. Different drag models are used and compared. The computational results are validated against experimental results. The experimental data are taken from Hulme (2...
متن کاملSimulation of Biomass Gasification in Fluidized Bed Using Aspen Plus
Gasification is a thermo-chemical process to convert carbon-based compounds such as biomass and coal into a gaseous fuel. Among the various types of gasification methods, fluidized bed gasification is one which is considered as more efficient method than others as biomass is fluidized in a mixture of air/oxygen and steam. In the present study, a comprehensive steady state process model has been...
